1st Press Release - Water Matters

Introducing “Water Matters” as the slogan of this campaign, the Institute of Marine Biological Resources and Inland Waters (IMBRIW) of the Hellenic Center for Marine Research (HCMR) has undertaken the implementation of the Small Grant Project “Increase knowledge on the Importance of the Good status of Water Bodies “, within the framework of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway Grants).

Our goal is to run an information and awareness campaign on the islands of Santorini, Ios, Leros, Kalymnos, Pserimos and Telendos targeting both students and the general public, in order to highlight the pressures that water bodies are under. The campaign will also aim at increasing the understanding of the value of water resources, with the main focus on the student population.

Using various educational/informative and experiential activities as tools (digital material, webinars, teacher training, experiential field activities with students, cultural activities with students, promotion and presentation of activities on social media, conferences, science cafe, etc.) the campaign aims to expound on the need for improvement concerning the environmental status of aquatic ecosystems while at the same time reducing the adverse effects of pollution together with other human induced pressures.
